I spent most of my twenties dedicated to Long Live the Twenties, and after wrapping it up I spent a couple of years wondering what to write about next and what I wanted to achieve with my new blog. But it became clear to me that I wanted to remain authentic and share about what I know and who I am regardless of where it would take me.

Birches by Robert Frost became my inspiration for this new blog. So much of my identity work, self-reflections, and pursuit of meaning in the last decade of my life has centered around taking time to appreciate the world and experiences adults may not usually notice or take for granted. There’s a reason why I love books like Dandelion Wine (Ray Bradbury) and Le Petit Prince (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry), stories that reveal how much richer life can be when experienced through the innocent eyes of a child.

When the world gets exhausting and responsibilities overwhelming, I want to come here to this blog and write my way into a new perspective, reflect on things I wish I could change, or have a space to explore ideas. This space will be a practice of being a “swinger of birches,” someone who can let go of responsibilities for a little while and just dream.

It’s when I’m weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood…
I’d like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.

If you are a kindred spirit, I look forward to sharing my stories and musings with you and invite you too to become a swinger of birches for a little while, to get back in touch with your childlike self, and see the world a little brighter, a little kinder, and a little more magical.

One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.
